Lead the last City to salvation in this text-based adventure title
Alcyone: The Last City, created by indie developer Joshua Meadows for mobile, is a sci-fi visual novel presented as an adventure game. Players must make a series of wise and sound choices to guide civilization to salvation or risk leading it to complete and utter destruction.
Set in an apocalyptic world of a mystical universe, Alcyone: The Last City provides decision-based gameplay, utilizing text-based and interactive fiction mechanics. This casual title is illustrated in hand-drawn 2D visuals, features multiple endings, explores futuristic, dystopian, and emotional themes, and blends role-playing and strategy elements.
Forge your story
Alcyone: The Last City follows the last surviving city of the fallen civilization post-outbreak of the Nihility spread across the universe within the speed of light, completely obliterating everything that it touched. In the aftermath, Alcyone becomes the last remnant of the said civilization, with its name lost forever, becoming simply known as the City.
Since the game relies heavily on the player's choices and the story's dramatic and meaningful narrative, they must weigh difficult options meticulously, as each decision can branch out to a different storyline and affect the overall journey. The story has a total of five romantic storylines, including an aromantic one, all of which lead to one of the seven possible endings.
What separates this title from most narrative-based games that use interactive and text-focused mechanics is it has an RPG character system, allowing players to influence the story through attributes system, which includes Body, Vigour, Mind, and Charm. However, the game suffers from some setbacks, such as frequent crashes and typographical errors, both of which could be improved in future updates.
Compelling narrative-based title
Alcyone: The Last City offers a unique blend of narrative-driven gameplay, RPG mechanics, and emotional storytelling. With decision-based mechanics and hand-drawn visuals, the game provides a compelling experience for fans of sci-fi and interactive fiction. While it has some technical issues, such as crashes and typographical errors, these could be addressed in future updates, making this game a promising addition to the visual novel genre.
